Music by Ethel Smyth, Clara Schumann, Nadia Boulanger, Lera Auerbach, Vivian Fung, Errollyn Wallen and Lora Kvint.

Narration by Mickey Sumner

The Muse, a multimedia recital program, will lead the audience through masterpieces by transcendent female composers such as Clara Schumann, Ethel Smyth, and Nadia Boulanger. These women transformed classical music in their time, while also acting as mentors and educators, thereby redefining the usual definition of the word ‘muse’. This program not only celebrates their groundbreaking contributions but gives their legacies contemporary resonance. A deeply personal journey, The Muse focuses on new works, too, beginning with music by Philippe Quint’s mother, the celebrated composer Lora Kvint, and also featuring pieces by other pre-eminent female performers/composers of our time, including Lera Auerbach, Vivian Fung, and Errollyn Wallen. The musical selections, interwoven with writings by Sappho, Anne Finch, Clara Schumann, Nadia Boulanger, and Lera Auerbach, offer a rich tapestry of music, poetry, and personal narratives.
